How House of Shaadi collects, uses and protects your information.

Who we are

House of Shaadi is a platform for British Asian weddings, based in London. We are the controller of the personal information described here. For any privacy question or request, email founder@houseofshaadi.com.

What we collect

  • Vendor applications: your name, role, email, phone number, business details, the areas you cover, prices, links to your work and reviews, the images and documents you upload, and how you heard about us.
  • Accounts: your email address and a password, and for brides your name and wedding date if you add it. Passwords are stored by our database provider in encrypted (hashed) form; we never see them. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google.
  • The Exchange: the posts you publish and the replies you send. When you reply, the person who posted sees your name, your message and your email address, so they can reply to you directly.
  • Bridal briefs: your name, email, phone number if you add it, wedding date, location, guest numbers, budget, events and anything you tell us about your vision.
  • Mailing lists and the Discover waitlist: your email address, and your name and wedding date if you register for early access.

How we use it

  • To review vendor applications, verify businesses and decide whether to approve them. We do this because you asked us to consider your application.
  • To run your account, show your application status and, once you’re approved, publish your vendor profile.
  • To reply to bridal briefs and suggest suitable vendors.
  • To run The Exchange, including emailing you when someone replies to your post.
  • To tell you when Discover opens, if you joined the waitlist.
  • To send House of Shaadi news and new opportunities, only if you ticked the box to receive them. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • To keep the site secure and prevent misuse, which is in our legitimate interests.

We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.

Who we share it with

We use trusted providers to run the site. They process information only on our instructions:

  • Supabase stores accounts, vendor applications, images and documents.
  • Netlify hosts the website and receives form submissions such as briefs and mailing list sign-ups.
  • Resend sends our account emails and The Exchange reply emails.
  • Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.
  • Google Fonts supplies the site’s typefaces, which means your browser’s IP address is shared with Google when pages load.

Some of these providers may process information outside the UK. Where they do, they use safeguards approved under UK data protection law, such as standard contractual clauses.

Once a vendor is approved, the profile details and portfolio images they choose to share become public on House of Shaadi. Contact details, documents and our review notes are never published.

How long we keep it

  • Vendor applications and accounts: while your account is open. If an application isn’t approved, we delete it within 12 months unless you ask us to keep it.
  • Bridal briefs: up to 12 months after your wedding date.
  • Mailing lists: until you unsubscribe.
  • Discover waitlist: until we’ve told you Discover is open, or sooner if you ask us to remove you.
  • Exchange posts and replies: while your account is open, or until you or we remove the post.

Storage in your browser

We store a small amount of information in your browser so the site works: your sign-in session, and drafts of forms so you don’t lose your progress. These are strictly necessary and are never used for tracking. Clearing your browser’s site data removes them.

Your rights

You can ask us to see, correct, delete or export your information, or to stop or limit how we use it. Vendors can update most profile details themselves from their dashboard. To make a request, email us; we’ll reply within one month.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We’d appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Changes

If we change this notice, we’ll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we’ll tell vendors by email.
